Matchroom chairman Hearn Warns of Legal Action Targeting Eubank Jr Over ‘Sabotage’ Claims
Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn has threatened to pursue litigation targeting Eubank Jr, following the fighter accused his opponent’s team of engaging in underhand tactics and attempted sabotage before their highly anticipated second bout.
Claims Made by Eubank Jr
The boxer, who took victory in their first encounter by unanimous decision, claimed that emergency transport taking him to medical care post-fight was prevented from leaving for a significant period.
“They did everything in an attempt to undermine me during the last fight,” the fighter stated. “Violations of agreement, fines, strict weight rules, a sabotaged weigh-in, biased commentary and officiating. The list goes on.”
He further added that his support staff were prevented from accessing the venue and that stadium guards tried to delay his arrival on purpose.
Strong Denial
Eddie Hearn rejected the allegations as “nonsense” and warned legal consequences unless Eubank Jr retracts his statements.
“He is unaware that we possess official records from the event, it’s there in black and white,” Hearn stated.
He continued, “He will be making an apology, or we’ll be taking legal steps. I take this very seriously. Our reputation is second to none.”
Historical Context
This conflict between both boxers stems from a decades-old family rivalry starting in the late 1980s during which their parents, Chris Eubank Sr and Benn Sr, faced off in two epic matches.
Tribute to Ricky Hatton
At the press conference, Conor Benn honored to recently deceased boxer Ricky Hatton, who was discovered deceased in his residence aged 46.
“He was a figure that greatly helped me professionally and somebody who took me in as a mentor,” the boxer shared. “I felt comforted when I didn’t have a home. He meant a lot for my development.”
Looking Ahead to the Rematch
The rematch, billed as “Unresolved Matters,” will occur on November 15 inside a London venue.
Eubank Jr will have new trainer BoMac supporting him, whereas his opponent vowed to come back in improved version of himself.
McIntyre commented, “It’s likely it’s going to be a little bit easier in the rematch. He already got his number.”
The younger fighter retorted using a dismissive comment: “It’s amusing that you brought an additional coach , since you know that he’ll require the help.”
